My Picks for Week 3!

Week 3 of college football got underway last night with Rutgers beating South Florida.  Things are heating up so it’s time to preview a few key conference games, starting with the #1 team in the land.

Alabama versus Arkansas

(1) Alabama

(2-0, 0-0 away)

Arkansas

(1-1, 1-1 home)
Arkansas has a good home-field advantage, but the Hogs have yet to distinguish themselves from the LSU’s and Alabama’s of the SEC West.  Senior quarterback Tyler Wilson will be out this game so that’s another knock against them.  Alabama also has a strong rushing attack with T.J. Yeldon and that was on full display in their blowout of Michigan.  I don’t think the Razorbacks can stop this Bama offense.  Plus….who loses to Louisiana-Monroe…?

My Pick:  Alabama

That one was almost too easy.

Florida versus Tennessee

(18) Florida

(2-0, 1-0 SEC)

(23) Tennessee

(2-0, 2-0 home)

This looks like a good SEC match up, especially because Tennessee doesn’t suck anymore and they’re finally ranked.  Florida has dominated the series and they are coming off of a strong road win against a tough Texas A and M squad.  They definitely have the experience and confidence to get another hard-fought win in enemy territory.  Tennessee really hasn’t done much lately, so I’m gonna have to write them off here.  Sorry!

My Pick:  Florida

USC versus Stanford

(2) USC

(2-0, 1-0 away)

(21) Stanford

(2-0, 2-0 home)

This is a good testing point for the Trojans.  They should easily defeat this Stanford squad by at least two touchdowns.  Don’t sleep on the Cardinal though because they still have a lot of talent even without Andrew Luck.  Senior running back Stepfan Taylor should do enough to at least keep his team in the game.  Last years match up ended in an overtime shootout with the Cardinal squeaking out a win.  This time, however, they’ll realize just how much they miss Andrew Luck.

My Pick:  USC

Notre Dame versus Michigan State

(20) Notre Dame

(2-0, 1-0 away)

(10) Michigan St

(2-0, 1-0 home)

This could be a classic.  Two strong squads are going against each other and both are starting to make noise on the college football landscape.  I don’t know what it is about me and Notre Dame but I just don’t trust them to make a resurgence just yet (could be because I’m partially a Michigan fan).  Michigan State is a veteran squad and much more battle tested than the Fighting Irish.  The Spartans also have a strong running back in Le’Veon Bell, and I expect for him to do some damage.

My Pick:  Michigan State

Well that’s all for Week 3.  Tune in next week and I’ll have some more games for you.

My record:  6-3

So glad the cupcakes are finally going away.
