It’s amazing how many things can happen in the world of sports in such a short amount of time.
It was hard to choose the moment that really stood out to me this week. I was planning on doing a double-feature on Brandon Knight getting dunked on by Deandre Jordan and Jason Terry getting dunked on by LeBron James, but one stands out in particular.
And it has to do with college basketball.
No it’s not Gonzaga losing to Wichita State.
No it’s not Georgetown losing to Florida Gulf Coast (who just became the first #15 seed to advance to the Sweet 16.
It’s a certain high-profile powerhouse’s dismissal of this man…
Ok, what was UCLA smoking. Here’s a guy who led your school to three straight Final Four appearances, not to mention a 233-107 overall record as your coach.
Howland also won the Pac-12 regular season title this year. Heck, Bone might be out of a job soon if this becomes the new standard.
The point I’m trying to make is that this move makes absolutely no sense at all. Perhaps there were some politics at play that we don’t know about, regardless though the man deserved at least one more year.
I’m going to laugh so hard if the Bruins turn into the Oakland Raiders of college basketball.
Here’s where I got a majority of my information from http://news.yahoo.com/ucla-fires-ben-howland-basketball-coach-020144777–spt.html

His tenure fell apart when he pissed off the AAU schools in Southern California…those three-straight final fours were built on the back of Southern California recruits who could work together…once he pissed off the AAU schools, it was only a matter of time before he was relieved of duty.
Fair enough, but I think he should have gotten at least one more year.
If it wasn’t for the Bruins nine game winning streak, he would have been fired mid-season
