College Football Week 3 Picks

Well my weekend (part of Saturday, and all day Sunday) will soon be underway.  I messed up big time in my picks for college football last weekend and now is the time to make up for those losses and come out ahead.  Let’s start with a Pac-12/Big 12 matchup.

#16 UCLA at #23 Nebraska

(16) UCLA

(1-0, 0-0 away)

(23) Nebraska

(2-0, 2-0 home)

With USC’s loss to Washington State the Bruins have all but assured themselves a spot in the Pac-12 title game.  While I do think that the Bruins will win the South division, I think they may have met their match in Nebraska.  Don’t get me wrong both teams have a lot of talent, but I think that Nebraska will be motivated going into this game and avenge last season’s loss.  That could change all of a sudden if Cornhuskers QB Taylor Martinez (which a lot of people say I look like) throws multiple interceptions.  I think the Huskers have the edge though, especially since they are playing at home.

My Pick:  #23 Nebraska

#1 Alabama at #6 Texas A&M

(1) Alabama

(1-0, 1-0 away)

(6) Texas A&M

(2-0, 2-0 home)

I love me some Johnny Football.  Call me a bandwagoner but that kid has captured my heart and admiration with the plays he made last season, and the plays he continues to make.  Alabama is no pushover though, and they will be extremely motivated after suffering that lone loss to Johnny in that upset in Tuscaloosa.  Bama is great, but they are far from invincible.  As much fun as it was to watch that blowout win over Virginia Tech, their offense has some issues.  Johnny will make some plays, but expect for the better defense to make the difference in this one.  It also helps that A&M plays this at home.  Call me crazy…

My Pick:  #6 Texas A&M

#19 Washington at Illinois

(19) Washington

(1-0, 0-0 away)

Illinois

(2-0, 2-0 home)

I’m putting this one here because I severely underestimated the Washington Huskies during Week 1.  Anytime you can blowout a ranked team 38-6 you deserve to be considered a contender.  Fellow Cougs are going to hate me for this, but I’m picking the Huskies in this game.  They still deserve our hatred, but maybe this time they deserve our respect.  It’d still be nice if the Illini won though.

My Pick:  #19 Washington

#25 Ole Miss at Texas

(25) Ole Miss

(2-0, 1-0 SEC)

Texas

(1-1, 1-0 home)

Ole Miss has turned into a pleasant surprise this season, while Texas has turned into an unpleasant one.  After suffering a surprising blowout to BYU, Texas coach Mack Brown fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz and replaced him with Greg Robinson. While I should be overlooking the Longhorns 66-31 loss over the Rebels, I just can’t. Texas has too much talent to get back to back losses on their transcript this season.
My Pick: Texas

My Record: 5-6

Hopefully I get to .500 this week.

Stay Classy everyone!
