NCAA Basketball

(17) Iowa State 85, (19) Texas 76

Here is my first follow-up to the rest of the college basketball season.

Final

(19) Texas 76

(20-6, 9-4 Big 12)

(17) Iowa State 85

(20-5, 8-5 Big 12)

#17 Iowa State defeated #19 Texas by a score of 85-76 to improve to 20-5 on the season and 8-5 in Big 12 play.  Texas meanwhile fell to 20-6 and 9-4 in conference play.

Here’s what this means

1.  Kansas might have a challenger in the Big 12

The Jayhawks almost got upset tonight by Texas Tech, and if it wasn’t for an Andrew Wiggins layup with two seconds left they would have only a one game lead over second place Texas.  It’ll be interesting to see if Kansas wins the conference title again this year, but if this game is any indicator the Jayhawks won’t win that title unopposed.

2.  Texas has got to stop the scoring droughts

There were two instances in the game where the Longhorns went five minutes or more without making a field goal.  Both were towards the end of the game.  That is not going to cut it come March.  This might be a bad apple, but Texas needs to improve their field percentage considering that they did shoot only 33% from the field.

3.  Iowa State has a great trio

Melvin Ejim, Deandre Kane, and Georges Niang combined to score 67 points.  The Cyclones also became the only team this season to record 70 points in every one of their games.  If this team can put together performances like that, they will go a long way come March.

So there you have it, hope you enjoyed my first post.  More tomorrow.

(Sorry the Texas logo wouldn’t show up).

Stay Classy Everyone
