NBA Thursday Round-Up

Here’s the latest for this week’s NBA action.

1.  Watch out for Houston

I know that the Rockets just lost to the Warriors 102-99 tonight in overtime, but they were able to get back in the game off of 39 points from James Harden.  That was all with Dwight Howard being handicapped by foul trouble.  There were also quite a few alley-oops Harden was serving to Howard. Houston could make some noise in the Western Conference and if they play their cards right they might make a Western Conference Finals, or maybe even a Finals appearance. I sense Superman has returned.

2.  Durant is still the front-runner for MVP, but LeBron is right behind him

Looking at the Heat’s 103-81 win over West #1 Oklahoma City you can’t help but think that history might be repeating itself.  Could we be seeing another 27-game winning streak?  As great as that would be, let’s not count our chickens before they hatch.  After dropping 40+ against the Mavericks, LeBron drops the newspaper on Durantula and leaves with 33.  Heat fans should be a little concerned about this injury, as this isn’t quite a welcome sight.

 3.  Indiana might not be as good as we thought they were

Let’s take a look at the Eastern Conference standings

EASTERN W L PCT GB HOME ROAD DIV CONF PF PA DIFF STRK L10
1 Indiana 41 13 .759 – 26-3 15-10 6-2 26-6 98.6 90.7 +7.8 Lost 1 6-4
2 Miami 39 14 .736 1 ½ 20-4 19-10 9-2 22-10 104.4 98.8 +5.5 Won 4 8-2

As you can see Indiana’s lead is down to 1 1/2 games over the defending champions. After getting blown out 104-91 by the Timberwolves, and letting Kevin love drop 42, it seems the Heat have stolen the momentum. While this LeBron injury is concerning to Miami, a victory against a premier foe like Oklahoma City is definitely something they can hang their hat on. Whether they keep it going against Chicago on Sunday is an even bigger question.

Stay Classy Everyone!
