Well I’m back and it has been a long summer of job hunting and other escapades (one of which was a love letter I sent to an old neighbor), but anyways it’s time to get back to football. The Washington State Cougars start the 2014 season against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and anything short of a Cougar win will be unacceptable. This column however will be picking the three ranked matchups during opening weekend. Let’s start with a game in Columbia, South Carolina.
#21 Texas A&M at #9 South Carolina

(21) Texas A&M

(9) South Carolina
(0-0, 0-0 home)
Life after Johnny will begin for Texas A&M, and with that said they have a lot of holes to fill. Kenny Hill will be taking Manziel’s spot at quarterback while defensive end Darius English will be taking over Jadeveon Clowney’s spot for South Carolina. The difference in the poll rankings shouldn’t fool you but A&M is going through more of a transition phase than South Carolina, and that’s why they have my pick.
My Pick: #9 South Carolina
#16 Clemson at #12 Georgia

(16) Clemson

(12) Georgia
(0-0, 0-0 home)
Just like the previous game we will see offenses that have lost star players. Clemson lost quarterback Tajh Boyd and electrifying receiver Sammy Watkins to the draft, while Georgia lost quarterback Aaron Murray. This game is essentially a toss-up, but I say Clemson wins this one because Georgia has a history of losing big games early.
My Pick: #16 Clemson
#14 Wisconsin versus #13 LSU

(13) LSU

Both teams have question marks under quarterback, however I am going to pick the Tigers in this one. LSU always seems to win their neutral site games to start the season and based off of what I’ve seen from the SEC these last few years there’s no reason to doubt them in neutral site games.
My Pick: #13 LSU
Football is back baby!
