Warriors/Thunder Game 7 Preview

We have another Game 7 on our hands.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors will play tomorrow to determine who will represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals.  The Eastern Conference representative, the Cleveland Cavaliers, clinched their series two days ago.

Klay Thompson had 41 points yesterday in a critical Game 6 victory to keep Golden State alive.

The Oklahoma City Thunder had a 3-1 series lead on Tuesday, and the Warriors looked to be a little out of sorts.  After a Game 5 victory that the Warriors took 120-111, it was all but setup for the Thunder to make their second NBA Finals appearance.  Golden State was in danger of being eliminated from the postseason entirely multiple times yesterday, but a clutch 9-0 run at the end propelled them to a 108-101 victory in Oklahoma City.

Now the pressure is on the Thunder, will Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook be able to bounce back, especially considering they have to do so on the road.  My instincts tell me no, but crazier things have happened.

Even if the Thunder lose tomorrow’s game, former Florida coach Billy Donovan has done a brilliant job in his rookie season.

My Prediction

Golden State wins Game 7 by a score of 111-109.  I think it will be close, but given how the Thunder struggled to close things out yesterday, that’s a major indicator they might struggle on the big stage.  That’s a huge understatement considering the Warriors won all three regular-season meetings, some after Oklahoma City blew some pretty large leads.  Great season Thunder fans, but you might need to wait until next year for that Finals return.
