Week 13 Rivalry Week Recap

Here is a quick recap of an unlucky Week 13 for several college football teams.  Let’s start with the Apple Cup yesterday.

Final 1 2 3 4 T

5 Washington

(11-1, 8-1 Pac-12)

11-1

28 7 0 10 45

23 Washington State

(8-4, 7-2 Pac-12)

8-4

3 7 7 0 17

What I Thought was Going to Happen:  The Washington State Cougars were going to earn a hard-fought upset victory over the Washington Huskies.  The Cougs would go on to win the Pac-12 North and keep their dreams of going to Pasadena alive.

What Actually Happened:  I should have expected this.  UW stomped the Cougars from the opening whistle.  I have to admit they are a pretty good team this year.  If they beat #9 Colorado next week they will surely be in the College Football Playoff.

Final/2OT 1 2 3 4 OT T

3 Michigan

(10-2, 7-2 Big Ten)

10-2

0 10 7 0 10 27

2 Ohio State

(11-1, 8-1 Big Ten)

11-1

0 7 7 3 13 30

What I Thought was Going to Happen:  The Michigan Wolverines were going to storm into Columbus and claim a Big Ten East division title.  They would hold off a strong Buckeye team and advance to face #6 Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game.

What Actually Happened:  The only consolation in this loss is that Ohio State isn’t going to the Big Ten championship game either.  #7 Penn State will.  Controversial penalties and mistakes doomed #3 Michigan as they feel in Double Overtime and lost all hopes of making the College Football Playoff.

Final 1 2 3 4 T

13 Auburn

(8-4, 5-3 SEC)

8-4

3 6 3 0 12

1 Alabama

(12-0, 8-0 SEC)

12-0

10 3 14 3 30

What I Thought was Going to Happen:  Bama was going to smack Auburn

What Actually Happened:  Bama smacked Auburn.  Really not much to be said here.

Final 1 2 3 4 T

22 Utah

(8-4, 5-4 Pac-12)

8-4

7 0 6 9 22

9 Colorado

(10-2, 8-1 Pac-12)

10-2

7 6 7 7 27

What I Thought was Going to Happen:  Colorado was going to claim the Pac-12 South trophy and set up a date with the Washington Huskies for control of the conference.  Utah was going to put up a good fight but expectations were that Colorado would overcome them.

What Actually Happened:  Colorado did just that.  It wasn’t easy, but they were able to just barely hold off the Utes to set up a date in Santa Clara with UW.  I will be cheering for the Buffaloes of course, since I hate UW and would like nothing more than those smug pansies to fall flat on their face once again.

Final 1 2 3 4 T

15 Florida

(8-3, 2-3 away)

8-3

0 3 3 7 13

14 Florida State FSU

(9-3, 4-2 Home)

9-3

7 3 7 14 31

What I Thought was Going to Happen:  The Gators were going to lose to the Seminoles for the fourth straight year.

What Actually Happened:  The Gators lost to the Seminoles for the fourth straight year.  Sorry people I am not puting a lot of effort into blowouts, especially for games when “I told you so” is a common response.

This makes me 21-20 on the year.  Rough luck over the last few days, but that’s ok.  Should pick up by the time the Conference Championships finish.
