NFL Championship Game Preview

I went 3-1 last week, and my only loss so far this postseason has been picking my hometown Seahawks over the Atlanta Falcons this week.  Not bad at all.  Let’s start with the NFC Championship Preview.

12:05 PM PT FOX ATL -6.0

Packers

(10-6, 4-4 away)

10-6

Falcons

(11-5, 5-3 Home)

Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay pulled off a stunning escape to earn a 34-31 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.  The Packers have won 8 in a row, and look to make it 9 in this afternoon’s trip to the Georgia Dome.  This game is slightly difficult to pick because logically you should pick the Falcons because they have the better offense and a lot of their playmakers aren’t banged up (like Green Bay’s).  Matt Ryan has looked all the part of an MVP candidate, and Julio Jones as well as Devonta Freeman ran all over that Seahawks defense last week.  I can’t pick against Aaron Rodgers though.  He is too good in these types of games, and unfortunately for Ryan he will continue to be the only quarterback in this group of four without a Super Bowl ring.

My Pick:  Packers

3:40 PM PT CBS NE -6.0

Steelers

(11-5, 5-3 away)

11-5

Patriots

(14-2, 6-2 Home)

Quick update on this situation.  A fire alarm was pulled at the Steelers hotel at 3 AM this morning which no doubt may have thrown this team off a little.  I doubt that will make that much of a difference, but you never know in these types of games.  Tom Brady has traditionally owned the Patriots, and at home against Mike Tomlin he has 15 touchdowns to 0 interceptions.  New England is also really good at taking away a team’s best player.  In this case it’s Le’Veon Bell for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had a great game against Kansas City.  However, Pittsburgh will need more than field goals to beat this battle-tested Patriots team, and I don’t think their defense will be able to stop a determined Tom Brady.  Pittsburgh will make it close, but in the end the Home-Field advantage at Gillette Stadium is going to be too much to overcome.

My Pick:  Patriots

7-1 so far this postseason, let’s keep it up 🙂
