The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive end Dwight Freeney as a role player to fill in after Cliff Avril was placed on the injured reserve last week.
Freeney recorded a three sacks and seven tackles, with three assist, while playing in 15 games with the Atlanta Falcons last season — he also recorded a sack in the Super Bowl. The 14-year veteran only started in one game last season.
The 14-year veteran is not as dominant a force as he used to be, but he’s a smart addition to Seattle’s defensive line to spell Michael Bennett and Sheldon Richardson after Avril’s season ending injury forced both ends to play more snaps against the Giants than they had previously.
