The Spiel: Braun makes bad decision, gets thrown out

Milwaukee Brewers’ outfielder Ryan Braun is off to a slow start in 2018 as he’s rarely reached base — his OBP is currently sitting at a paltry .176 through 19 PAs. But when he has been on, he hasn’t always been the most astute baserunner.

On Thursday night, the veteran was able to get on base by drawing a walk; then he swiped second base on a well executed steal.  Unfortunately for Braun, his luck came to an end when misread starting pitcher Jon Lester and started to run towards third base before Lester started his wind-up. The result was…well, predictable.

Lester’s bounce pass beat Braun to the bag by several steps and Kris Bryant easily applied the tag.

At press time, the Cubs had a 5-0 nothing lead through the middle of the third inning.
