Nationals’ Soto hits dinger in first start

The Washington Nationals have been absolutely awful through the first month and half of the season, and they’ve struggled with injuries. So it wasn’t a surprise when they called up outfielder Juan Soto from Double-A over the weekend.

Soto’s first at bat was a pinch hit appearance on Sunday, and he promptly struck out. But on the first pitch, in his first at-bat, of his first career start the 19-year old did this.

This dinger made him the youngest player to hit a home run in the majors Jurickson Profar hit a home run for the Texas Rangers back in 2012.

Washington needs Profar to hit the ground running in the show. As the Nats’ offense has been absolutely dreadful and their outfield has been banged up by injuries. It’ll be interesting to see how the rookie does as the year moves along.
