The BS Show: The playoffs are no country for Seattle Mariners

Shane’s currently in San Diego, so Brent Schwartz pinch hits for him in this week’s episode. Without Shane’s sunny disposition and energetic horns, you may need to curl up in a blanket and get ready to cry as we break down the state of the team. Spoiler: it’s not very good.

At 5.5 back in the wild card, odds are good that the Mariners’ postseason hopes are over. We go over what they would need to do to climb back into the race now that there are only 29 games left in the regular season. It’s not going to be easy.

We discuss Marco Gonzales being sent to the DL, and reflect on his expectations-defying season to this point. No matter how the season goes, he looks like a solid discovery for the future of the M’s.

Was Wade LeBlanc getting hot secretly a bad thing for the Mariners? They seemed to get locked into the five guys that were performing and not seem to develop much of a plan if one or more of the pitchers in the rotation began to struggle. Now, with multiple starters struggling, and not much time to make a waiver deal, will the Mariners look back on this August with regret?

Why the heck is Ryon Healy still playing?

We look into our top five disappointments of the Mariner season, and agree on three of them. Unfortunately, there are quite a few choices with how the second half has gone.

The Seahawks did some stuff, trading a 6th round 2019 pick for Green Bay backup QB Brett Hundley, who is bad, and re-signed WR Tyler Lockett to a three-year deal, which could be good or bad. We discuss both things.

We gloss over WSU’s game against Wyoming–because we did a full podcast on that, which will be coming out later today–and look a little more closely at UW’s tilt with Auburn. Yes, there’s some bias in our analysis as two Cougs, but we think we did a pretty fair job of breaking the game down.

Finally, we give out our swelmets of the week, and there are actually two! All that, and very little more on this week’s edition of the BS Show!
