This show was a lot more fun to do than last week’s! And it was all possible thanks to Brett’s mom saving the day and driving the microphones to our recording space at our shared work. Thanks, Jacquie!
Before we start, we spend a few moments talking about today’s news of former Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid dying at the age of 65. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
After some holiday recap, we jump into Sunday night’s excellent Seahawks game, in which the Seahawks clinched a playoff berth with a 38-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Russell Wilson had one of his best games as a professional, and uncorked some of the most beautiful throws we’ve ever seen.
With a playoff berth wrapped up, we take some time to talk about what an incredible last two decades it’s been to be a Seahawks fan–aside from one Jim Mora season, the Seahawks have been coached by either Mike Holmgren or Pete Carroll, and have appeared in three Super Bowls. These are the days Seattle fans will look back at and refer to as the “Golden Era” of Seahawks football. So appreciate what ya got while it’s here now, ya hear?
The Cardinals suck, so the Seahawks should beat them. But, that was also true of the 49ers. Still, we’re less worried about this one, and don’t spend a lot of time on this game.
The Mariners made a trade on Friday! They sent Ben Gamel and a minor league pitcher to the Brewers in exchange for right-handed power-hitting outfielder, Domingo Santana. We discuss why this is a good fit for both teams, and why the Mariners could afford to roll the dice on a player like Santana, who has more bust potential than Gamel.
Finally, it’s Bowl week for both the Cougars and Huskies! We start with the Cougs, since their game is first, against the Iowa State Cyclones on Friday. Your two valiant and handsome hosts differ on their outcome predictions on this game, though we do both think it’ll be an exciting game.
We do, however, agree on the second game! The Huskies have a tough task in the Rose Bowl against Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes. Will the Huskies be able to spoil Meyer’s retirement party, or will UW fans have to watch Ohio State players carry him off the field on their shoulders? Well I’m not gonna tell you here ya dingus, you’ve gotta listen to know! So listen, already!
