While WNBA and Olympic legend Sue Bird announced her decision to come back for the 2022 season, back in January, the team hasn’t officially announced that she’d signed a new contract until Friday.
While the press release didn’t release the terms of the deal, I would personally be stunned if it’s longer than a one-year deal. Not only is Bird at the end of her career, this is also the last season of the current CBA between the WNBA and its players’ Union.
This will mark Bird’s 21st season with the franchise and her 19th season of play for the WNBA. She is the longest tenured player in league history and has four championship rings; all of them in Seattle.
